Focus on Girvan for elderly issues event

ISSUES faced by the elderly could come to the fore in Girvan as a new initiative seeks to highlight their struggles in a series of events.

The guest at this month’s Girvan Community Council meeting was Les Anderson from South Ayrshire Seniors’ Forum, who presented to members the Walk in Our Shoes initiative.

She informed those present of the Forum’s intention to host a roadshow in spring 2013 to raise the profile of the elderly, the problems they face and the issues that matter to them - and was pleased to announce that Girvan was the preferred town to begin from.

Girvan’s Age Concern building on Duff Street having hosted the initial Walk in Our Shoes meeting on September 10, Mrs Anderson said she was hopeful of both the community council and the residents’ continued support.

With a little funding already secured, she revealed plans a provisional five events - Girvan’s South Parish Church being a favourite venue for one - involving activities as well as information stalls.
