TOTS IN South Ayrshire are getting a taste for the beautiful game by taking part in a new nursery football programme.

Mini Kickers is designed to introduce football-themed sessions to three and four-year-old nursery children, and is being delivered across South Ayrshire in nurseries from Girvan to Troon.

Once initial staff training is complete a four-week block of coaching will be delivered to pupils by South Ayrshire Council’s Active Schools team, including a parent and child session on the final day.

To try to encourage par-
ticipation within communities a link has been established with Ayr United Football Academy to signpost parents
and children to sessions within their local area.

After seeing the programme in action at Doonfoot Primary School Councillor Margaret Toner, Lifelong Learning Portfolio Holder, said: “The Mini Kickers programme is being delivered in a way that really appeals to the children and you can see how enthusiastic they are about it.

“Importantly, the activi-
ties are great fun, which encourages all the participants, children, staff and parents to get active.”
