TWO soon-to-be brides are one step closer to their perfect day having been announced winners of the Carrick Gazette’s Scottish Wedding Show competition last week.

Each won a pair of tickets to the Show, to be held at the SECC in Glasgow on September 15 and 16, and will get the chance to enjoy Scotland’s largest catwalk show, inspiring wedding style tips from the Daily Record resident fashionista Julie Hannah, and exhibitions by the top names in everything wedding.

Competition entrant Tracy Wilson, of 3 Lendal Quadrant, Girvan, will soon be mother-of-the-bride to daughter Nicola, who got engaged to partner Malcolm Hutchison while holidaying in Turkey for their sixth anniversary of their meeting last month.

Mother and daughter are to attend the Show together to get ideas for Nicola’s nuptials, which are planned to take place within the next couple of years.

“I am over the moon to have won,” said Mrs Wilson.

“It’s just what Nicola needs, and could not have come at a better time. We are just starting to look at things and it will be a great advantage to see all the different things in one place.

“It’s a long time since I’ve been to a wedding and this is my first daughter that’s getting married, so I’ve been looking forward to this for a long time.”

Nicola, of 24 Ailsa Street East, said: “It’s a surprise to win. We’ve not set a date yet but it will be good to go along and see everything and start planning.”

Ballantrae’s Cheryl Laird, of 21 Downan Avenue, was another lucky winner, and will be scouting the Show for hair and make-up ideas ahead of her big day in March 2013.

“I’m really happy to have won,” said Cheryl, who will tie the knot with partner of three years Robert Agnew after getting engaged at Christmas.

“We are still looking for some ideas, some finishing touches.”
