gig on the Green promises to be another summer spectacular next Sunday with a top afternoon and evening of live music and comedy.
First held in 2009, last year’s event attracted over 400 local adults, young people and families to Stair Park on Girvan’s seafront and is Girvan Youth Trust’s contribution to the town’s Civic week celebrations.
This year’s event will be held from 12 noon until 8pm on Sunday, June 26 and will again be aimed at providing a fund day out for everyone.
The day will include live bands, crowning of the Civic Queen, free children’s entertainment in the form of circus skills workshops, balloon modeling and lots more. This year’s event will also see the presence of other local community groups and organisations, an ideal showcase for the positive side of Girvan and what it has to offer.
Charlotte Graystone, one of the organisers of the event, said: “We have two headline bands; one for the afternoon, Big Vern ‘N’ the Shootahs, and one for the evening, Lost In Audio.
“Also playing at the event will be The Senses, Goodfellows, The Peas, Attic, Fionn Corbett and Matt Wilson, all local bands from the Ayrshire area.
Dance troupe Y Dance will also be performing and comedians Kieran Farrell and John Purves.”
And to help keep the event going, a special fundraising team, pictured right, has been formed with the aim of keeping the coffers full to help fund this free concert and entertainment.
Girvan Youth Trust’s Bill Logan explained: “The young people of Z1 Youth Bar who are organising Gig on The Green 2011 have now launched a grand raffle with many fabulous prizes including a first prize of £500 cash, a day for two at Ayr Races, a family rail ticket and many more.
“The raffle is in aid of Gig on the Green and in particular the provision of free music and children’s entertainment on the day. Any extra money raised will be used in support of the ongoing local youth work provided by Girvan Youth Trust and the Oasis Youth Project.
