A BLACKOUT in some of Girvan’s streets will remain for another two weeks as South Ayrshire Council.
Streetlights around The Avenue area of the town have not been working since the New Year with one resident saying it is a “health and safety and security issue, particularly when the police are asking us to keep our lights on at night”.
It is understood that the council has a contract with Scottish Power. The fault was reported on January 31 and Scottish Power are allowed four weeks to respond. Girvan councillor Alec Oattes said this week that he had been told by council officials that there is a fault and a team from Scottish Power will arrive on February 23. Contractors were in The Avenue installing new streetlights, but the two operations are not connected.
