A YOUNG Girvan butcher has been crowned Scotland’s champion sliced sausage maker.

Ross Cunningham, aged 19, who works at Hendries on Girvan’s Dalrymple Street, was announced as the winner of the competition on Friday last week.

Presented by the Scottish Federation of Meat Traders, the award recognises the butcher for his highest quality version of the popular ‘square sausage’.

Ross’s sausage was judged the best in the southwest of Scotland when the contest was held in Dunfermline in August. He then entered the second round and took the top spot.

Tam Brown, owner of Hendries, said that Ross had been given his long-established recipe and had been making the sausages under his watchful eye.

The butcher’s shop has won awards for many of its products, including black pudding.
