IT WAS one small step for road safety, one giant leap for children from Girvan Nursery School as they put theory into practice and crossed Wreck Road last week.
The Sunshine Room tots selected transport as their topic this term as they were interested in learning about how many wheels vehicles have, different types of cars, traffic lights and crossing the road.
Activities have so far included painting their favourite transport toy, designing and creating Sunshine Railway Station and singing transport songs. One parent even visited the class to speak about being a taxi driver.
But on Thursday the children took their knowledge to the streets, above, and safely crossed the 20mph road at the back of Girvan Primary School under the guidance of designated road safety officer Jennifer McClung.
The children are also taking part in the Living Streets Walk Once a Week campaign, which aims to encourage children and their families to walk to school and/or raise awareness about walking in their lives.
The scheme sees the children record their walking activities on a daily basis in the nursery, and they rewarded monthly with a collectable WoW badge.
