At a meeting of Lodge Girvan St Johns’ No 237 on May 10, RWM Bro. William Agnew welcomed five other reigning Masters from lodges in Ayrshire to carry out a second degree. They were RWM Bro. Barry Crate of Wallace St Hugh No 1212, Crosshill, RWM Bro. Thomas Hainey of Fergusson St James No 566, Dailly, RWM Bro. Stephen Clark of St John No 11, Maybole, RWM Bro. George Ferguson of St Thomas Kilwinning No 433, Dalmellington, and RWM Bro. Murray Hunter of Stinchar Valley No 1705, Ballantrae.

Bro. Peter J Ogg of St John No 11, Maybole, was the volunteer candidate for the evening’s degree. The day was enjoyed by the large numbers of brethren and visitors present which included a deputation from the Provincial Grand Lodge of Ayrshire headed by Bro Robert Stewart, Substitute Provincial Grand Master of Ayrshire. After the conclusion of the meeting a harmony was held and enjoyed by everyone present and included a race night and raffle.

The purpose of the meeting was to raise money for the charities nominated by Lodge Girvan St Johns’. £700 will be split between the Friends of Hillcrest Committee and Girvan Nursery.
