Girvan man set to stand trial over alleged fraudulent scheme

A Girvan man is set to stand trial next month charged with attempting to obtain money through fraud.

Billy Vennard pled not guilty to various charges at Ayr Sheriff Court and is set to stand trial on Thursday April 2.

Vennard pled not guilty to attempting to obtain money via a fraudlent scheme between February 22 and February 28, 2015 at addresses in Boyle Court, North Park Avenue, Bourtreehall and Rodney Drive all in Girvan.

He is accused of pretending to a 91 year-old woman that he was authorised by the Girvan Youth Trust to be collecting money for a sponsored road race. He is also alleged to have pretended to an 84 year-old man that he was authorised to collect on behalf of the Z1 Youth Bar.

He is also charged and accused of stealing £100 an address in Girvan and between February 22 and February 28 he breached a condition not to enter Boyle Court.
