At the Rotary Club of Girvan meeting in the Royal Hotel on the 7th February, the Guest Speaker was David Seaton who gave an excellent account of his winter-time hobby of walking stick and shepherds crook making.
He gave a display of the small number of tools he required, information booklets of designs, sticks often made from hazel branches, and horns of cattle, buffalo, and a great variety of sheep breeds. He described the various stages of work to produce each stick and handle. He has won a number of competitions and is looking forward to attending more shows, and is also willing to make a walking stick or crook to order. On behalf of the Club, Bill Paterson thanked him for a fascinating presentation of his artistic craft.
