A 21 year-old dancer from Girvan has beaten off some tough competition to earn himself a place at the National Youth Dance Company.

Kieran Shannon was selected from a two stage audition process which saw over 50 of Scotland’s top young dancers try out.

Kieran was chosen by Y Dance, Scotland’s national youth dance organisation and is now preparing himself for a whirlwind of creative master classes and performances throughout the next year.

He said: “Being in the National Youth Dance Company of Scotland has been such an amazing opportunity as it has provided me with so many performance opportunities and chances to work with so many amazing Choreographers.”

Kieran currently studies BA Hons Contemporary Dance at the Scottish School of Contemporary Dance in Dundee after achieving an HNC in Dance at Reid Kerr College in Paisley.

He has been a member of the National Youth Dance Company since its formation in 2011 and has performed in venues across Scotland.

Kieran added: “I am looking forward to all of the performances and exchange’s that we have planned along with creating a new and amazing piece.”

The first performance will come in the new-year when the company takes to the stage at YDance Routes Destinations at macrobert – 21 February 2015 – to showcase their newly created piece in front of a live audience.
