A swan affectionately known as ‘Mrs Sid’ is back in her native Girvan harbour after being sent away for treatment.

‘Mrs Sid’ went viral on Facebook after she had to be rescued last week after injuring her left leg trying to protect her cygnets along with ‘husband Sid’.

Help arrived from people including harbour master Roddy Leitch and Girvan Lifeboat crew member Keith Woods last Tuesday (June 9) to ensure she was safely sent to the SSPCA hospital in Alloa.

Husband Sid ensured the remaining four cygnets were well looked after - three others had been killed by a black gull.

‘Mrs Sid’ arrived back at lunchtime on Friday and is now safely back in the water with her family.

Harbourmaster Roddy said people should not encourage the gulls by throwing bread.
