Girls from the Z1 dance group in Girvan performed at the SECC in Glasgow on Sunday August 24 as part of Dance Show Live.
Eighteen girls headed up to the city to perform in what was their biggest show to date.
The organisers of Dance Show Live invited the girls to come along after seeing footage of one of their previous performances.
It capped a busy weekend for the Z1 girls as they also performed at the Ballantrae Smugglers Festival on the Saturday which helped toward the buld up for Sunday’s National Event.
The girls were initially a bit overwhelmed when they arrived in Glasgow as they were surrounded by other experienced dance groups waiting for their big chance to perform.
On the other hand, this also added to the girls excitement and spurred them on to what could be argued as their best performance so far.
The girls performed a contemporary piece named ‘Fight or Flight’ based on the Hunger Games Trilogy, with the theme of the dance being the fight against oppression.
They also had the chance to choreograph part of the dance with the support of their fantastic dance instructor Heather Alexander.
Not only did they get the chance to perform they also got to take part in workshops with many stars from dance, including Twist and Pulse – runners up of Britains Got Talent, Lucas McFarlane – last years winner of Got to Dance and the fantastic ‘Flawless’. Finally, to top it off they got to watch their favourite stars perform!
This was a huge highlight for the girls with many of them coming away with signed t-shirts and photographs as well as ‘selfies’ with their favourite acts. Overall, this was an amazing experience for Z1 Dance, one which they would love to be part of again next year!
Z1 Dance is a ‘free of charge’ community dance group that meet every Wednesday night at the gym hall in Girvan Primary from 6 till 8pm for girls 1st year to 18 years old.
If you are interested in dance and are keen to be part of a group go along and join them.
The dance group would like to say a huge thank you to our current funder ‘Carrick Futures’ as without financial support the group would not be able to exist.
The Z1 group would also like to say a huge thank you to ASDA Girvan for allowing the girls to run a Dance marathon and a Bag Pack in their local store. This meant the girls were able to raise money for costumes and travel costs allowing them to perform further afield in events like the Dance Show Live .
