THERE are glum faces in Girvan as a giant swing in the town’s beach park could be out of action for weeks.
The popular ‘bird’s nest swing’, which was only installed in the park earlier this year as part of its refurbishment, needs a special part from its manufacturers in the United States, and will be out of action until at least the end of October.
It is understood that all of the swings throughout the world have suffered the same defect and the manufacturer now has to design a new part.
Mike Newall, Head of Planning and Enterprise for South Ayrshire Council said: “We are sorry if this temporary closure has caused disappointment in the local area but we are doing all we can to get it reopened as soon as possible.
“Kompan the company who manufactured the Giant Birds Nest Swing at Girvan shorefront has informed us that a component part in the play equipment needs to be replaced.
“For health and safety reasons the equipment cannot be used until a replacement component has been fitted.
“The component is currently being produced and Kompan has informed us that we can expect to receive the replacement part towards the end of October. Once it arrives we will make arrangements to fit it.”
