Girvan veteran Helen Bolland is on another mission to raise funds for Help for Heroes.
Helen who was in the RAF until 2008 also served in Iraq for five months with 14 Signal Regiment EW.
Now she is planning on holding a dinner and auction for the charity in Ayr in September.
In April this year Helen and a group of friends walked the Great Wall of China and raised £17,000 for Help For Heroes.
Helen said: “It was the toughest thing I’ve ever done but it was so amazing to do as well. People from all over including people I’d never met before donated to the cause which was incredible.”
Helen spoke at length about the fantastic work the charity does on a daily basis.
“Help for Heroes isn’t just about seeing injuries, it is all about helping our heroes back into life. They might need specialist housing equipment when they return and Help For Heroes can provide that.
“They are helping me with my plans to go back to university where I hope to do something involving psychology and history in Glasgow but nothing is 100% yet.”
The night itself takes place at the Horizon Hotel in Ayr on 13 September and Helen has been amazed at the response of people donating auction items.
“I’m overwhelmed by the response because I didn’t really expect much. It’s so easy for people to open a letter and throw it in the bin but these people have taken the time to look at what I’m asking and that’s wonderful.
“I am hoping to raise £1,000 on the night.”
Items available to bid for on the night include items donated by Rangers and Celtic.
