Hunt for mystery animal

The Scottish SPCA is searching for a mystery animal abandoned outside its Ayrshire and South West Scotland Animal Rescue and Rehoming Centre in Ayr.

A box was found by the centre’s main gate at 8.30pm on Monday, May 30...but there was nothing inside.

Centre manager Marion Hainey said: “When I returned to the centre in the evening I discovered a taped-up cardboard box by the gate. However, there was no animal inside.

“There was a hole in the side of the box where an animal had obviously torn it open to escape.

“We think it was either a white cat or rabbit as there was some fur in the box. This was such a cruel and irresponsible act as the person who dumped the animal has now risked its life.

“We are very keen to find the person responsible for this.”

Anyone with information about the abandonment should call the Scottish SPCA animal helpline on 03000 999 999. All calls are treated in the strictest confidence.
