Residents and visitors in South Ayrshire recently enjoyed an inspirational and ‘wheelie great’ afternoon of family fun at Kyle Academy, as the Council hosted ‘Cycling for All’ – a day devoted to two-wheeled pedal pleasure!

Along with Carrick Cycles and Sainsbury’s Prestwick, South Ayrshire Council supported National Bike Week and cyclists past, present and future came along to rediscover the joy of two-wheeled transport in a fun-tastic afternoon for all the family.

‘Cycling for All’ attracted cyclists of all ages and abilities, who got on their bikes and pedalling along to a superb afternoon, which offered breathtaking bike stunt displays of two wheeled skill, cycle training, races and opportunities to try out a range of modern bicycles.

In addition, there were fun sessions for tots, stories and face painting – as well as numerous free draws and competitions, with loads of scintillating cycling goodies being won!

The venue was perfect as Kyle Academy boasts fantastic new mountain bike trails offering different challenges for cyclists of all abilities – from challenging off-road cycling on the ‘pump trail’ to a more gentle trundle on less arduous tracks and dozens of riders took the chance to test the terrain!

Cycling is well supported by South Ayrshire Council and the area features an extensive cycle network for riders of all abilities and ages – from experienced road racers, to leisure riders out for a simple Sunday cycle.

We’re also aiming to host the first ‘road cycling park’ in Scotland and recently launched a new website via the South Carrick Community Sports Hub − the Ayrshire Alps Cycle Park website www.ayrshirealps.org.

The Council website at www.south-ayrshire.gov.uk/leisure/walking-cycling/ will keep you up to date with the latest news and information on cycling in the area and a free downloadable App, will make our local cycle trails available to view on your Smartphone or Android device,

And, with summer finally here, there’s no better time to get on your bike and make the most of ‘cycling for all’ in South Ayrshire!
