Local knitters in Maybole have been picking up their needles to help babies born thousands of miles away.

Last week wardens, carers and residents of Crosne Street sheltered housing complex displayed the 138 jumpers, 246 hats and 30 blankets which had been made for babies in Africa.

Many of these babies’ families are so poor they are sent home from the hospital wrapped in newspaper.

Pat Docherty and Katie Kelly, wardens, would like to thank the knitters for their amazing support and local business Filly’s for the donation of wool.

Donations will still be accepted and the work will continue throughout 2013 and into 2014.
