STUDENTS and staff at Newton Stewart Community Centre celebrated their learning achievements last week.

Stephen Jack, Service Manager Area Framework and Community Learning and Development for Wigtown, presented SQA Core Skills Communication certificates to learners, including Caroline Jewiss and Anita Utting.

Adult learning tutor, Anne Snell and Community Learning & Development workers, Susan Brown and Caroline McLean, were also awarded their SQA Assessors’ certificates.

Councillor Roberta Tuckfield, Chair of Wigtown Area Committee, said: “I am delighted to see so many people achieving these SQA awards which will further career opportunities, learning and self confidence.”

The students all said how much they had enjoyed studying for their certificates. Caroline Jewiss did a ‘Let’s Cook’ healthy eating course as part of her study and this has given her a real ‘taste’ for learning. She also liked finding out about some local history for her writing project.

Anita has been commended at work for her learning achievements, which have allowed her to move up the job ladder and have given her the confidence to help her children with their homework.
