THERE ARE no two ways about fundraising for Girvan leisure facilities as South Carrick Community Leisure’s 50/50 club gets underway.

After raising cash for the town’s multi-faceted facility started with a splash in 2013 - with hardy souls Stephen Flanagan and Alan McDowall taking a New Year’s Day dip at Girvan beach - a new prize draw scheme aims to boost Girvan swimming pool funds lengths ahead.

A version of the traditional 100 club, for £1 a month - only £12 a year - 50/50 club members will be entered into a monthly draw to win prizes of £25 or £10 each month.

And the end of the year will see one big winner getting £215 in their pocket!

Each month 50 per cent of members’ fees will go into the multi-faceted facility’s fundraising pot - hence the club’s catchy name.

And if you’re hoping to win big, you’ll be pleased to hear 50/50 club membership is not restricted to one per person!

SCCL fundraising trustee Sconaid Clark said: “Everybody in the South Carrick area wants to have this pool and leisure centre in Girvan, and should get right behind us in our fundraising.

“This is the first of our planned events and we need to raise as much as we can to give us a pool and facilities that will regenerate Girvan both for ourselves and our children, while attracting visitors to the area.”

Membership forms are available in shops in Girvan and the surrounding villages as well as the Carrick Buildings, Ailsa Horizons, and the Carrick Gazette office at 32 Dalrymple Street.

The £12 fee can be paid in cash or by entering bank detals on the form, which should be returned to Eleanor McCarry at 13 Kirkpatrick Street, Girvan. The first draw will be in February.

Additional fundraising activities, including a town Fun Day on April 6 during the school holidays, are already planned for the year ahead, and donations are always welcome to the fund.
