A77 roadworks begin

FERRY travellers using the A77 to reach the ports at Cairnryan are asked to leave extra time for their journey, as £170K-worth of improvement work gets underway.

The Stranraer to Fenwick trunk road around three miles north of the new Stena Ferry Terminal has become worn and around 678 metres of road needs to be replaced.

From today resurfacing work will be taking place on both sides of the carriageway, and is expected to last through until October 1.

The road works, being completed by Amey on behalf of Transport Scotland, will take place daily between 7am and 7pm. It will also be necessary to have single lane closures under traffic signal control in place overnight tonight (Tuesday September 25) and on Thursday September 27 for the protection of the travelling public.

At all other times a convoy system will be in place for the protection of the workforce, and drivers may experience a short delay because of this.

Colin MacKenzie, operating company representative for Amey said: “The A77 is a vital trunk route, particularly as this section connects with the ferry terminals at Cairnryan.

“This investment will bring much needed improvements to the area and make journey times more reliable.”
