AILSA Craig is to become a star of TV and film come Friday as she features in a VisitScotland spring campaign.

The Carrick landmass, located around 10 miles from Girvan in the Firth of Clyde, will be shown for the first time tomorrow as part of a £3.4million tourism campaign by VisitScotland, aiming to get people exploring the outdoors this spring season.

Gannets on the Ailsa Craig (pictured below left) will feature alongside images of red deer on the Isle of Rum, white water rafting in Perthshire, and mountain biking in Torridon in the Highlands, in an international advert scheduled to air on screens in North America, France, and Germany - as well as in the UK.

From next week, it will also be shown before screenings of the movie Les Miserables in cinemas.

The advert celebrates the Year of Natural Scotland, a year-long events programme and marketing tool highlighting Scotland’s reputation as a land of outstanding beauty, and will air at 9.30pm tomorrow during STV’s Great Night Out.

It is expected to bring a return of some £68m to the Scottish economy.

VisitScotland chairman Mike Cantlay said: “The Year of Natural Scotland is a wonderful opportunity to showcase Scotland’s spectacular natural environment and our new advert shows the country in all its majestic glory, ranging from wildlife to exciting outdoor activities.

“Throughout 2013 I want to see as many Scots as possible get out and see our wonderful country for themselves.”

As part of their outdoor initiative VisitScotland have also teamed up with Scottish transport providers Caledonian MacBrayne, ScotRail, and Stagecoach on Big April Adventures - a giveaway of free and discounted tickets for travel during April. Anyone can apply from the end of February and winners will be drawn randomly.
