Army recruitment goes online

CARRICK’S future soldiers will be among the first to road test a new recruitment system as Armed Forces applications go online.

As of Friday next week (March 8) the Army Careers Information Office on East Road in Irvine will be one of more than 75 UK regional offices to close for good as the army prepares to partner up with outsourcing and professional services company, Capita.

From Monday March 11 Carrick’s closest recruitment centre will be on Glasgow’s Queen Street, where former Irvine office staff – including ex-Barr men Sergeant Wayne Taylor and Staff Sergeant William Alexander – will be transferred.

But future applicants are being urged not to reconsider their careers; in fact Army representatives say the new online process will be more convenient for the next generation of recruits.

“As the Army we need to move with the times, and online is the future,” said Staff Sergeant Alexander, current Irvine office manager.

“Just because we are moving on to a new system should not put people off making an application because they will be processed exactly the same if not quicker. The main message is that we are recruiting as normal.”

The new application process, which will streamline various forms and meetings into a one-off online event, is expected to go live on Friday March 1, and can be accessed via www.army.mod.uk.

After an application has been made, the eligibility of the applicant will be assessed centrally by Capita staff before they are assigned to their nearest recruitment office for a possible interview.
