There was high drama on Sunday evening as police were called to deal with a terrifying robbery incident at Girvan’s Premier store.
At around 5pm on Sunday, May 18 a male entered the shop and began to act in a threatening and demanding manner towards staff.
Police were immediately alerted and a number of patrol cars and an ambulance made their way to the store on Girvan’s Glendoune Street.
The shop was put into “lockdown” and closed off from the general public as police began their enquiries.
The suspect had fled the scene by the time police arrived.
However officers managed to trace the suspect and a 36 year old male was charged with assault and intent to rob.
It was confirmed that he did not make away from the store with any cash.
A report was submitted on the incident and sent to the procurator fiscal.
The 36 year old was set to appear at Ayr Sheriff Court on Tuesday.
