Ballantrae Parish church commemorate World War One

Ballantrae Parish Church had a large turnout for their World War One Commemorative service on Sunday 3rd August 2014.

The service commenced with piper William McCubbin playing a number of appropriate tunes including Flowers of the Forest.

The Scouts and Cubs acted as a guard of Honour at the entrance before carrying the flags into the Church.

The Rev. Stephen Ogston led the service with a number of hymns from the era, arranged by Mrs Margaret Maule.

The choir sang two lovely renderings accompanied by Allan and Gina.

Ballantrae Primary pupils Rachel and Jenna McKinnon, Zak and Sophie Jenkins and Ellis Whittington, directed by headmistress Yvonne Templeton, delivered poems “In Flanders Field” and “We Shall Keep the Faith”, with Eric Peacock providing an overview of the poems.

Colin McNally read about how the war affected the local community.

The very touching service concluded with tea and coffee and a display of postcards and photographs by Christine and Keith Brown about Ballantrae during WW1. Many thanks to all who contributed.
