Better bus routes get rolling in Girvan

Bus services in Girvan are being driven into the 21st century with the addition of new town routes.

As of Monday residential areas such as Troweir Road and The Avenue have begun being served by Stagecoach buses for the first time, while bus users will also benefit from increased frequency of both the 58 and 60 services and a more direct route to Ayr Bus Station.

The changes are a result of Girvan community councillors’ lobbying for an improved service, and chairman Ken Johnstone said he welcomed the changes: “Anything that brings the busses closer to their customers residences must be a good thing,” he said.

A Stagecoach spokesperson said: “Passengers using both the 58 Girvan to Ayr via Dailly and the 60 Girvan to Ayr via Maidens services will benefit from the changes to the timetable, which now offer a service every 30 minutes throughout the day.

“The 58 service will now also continue at appropriate times to Stranraer, thus serving P&O and Stena ferry passengers heading to and from Cairnryan.

“The services have been further improved by the omission of the peak time detour via The Loaning and the High Street into Ayr.

“Both the 58 and 60 services have a 60 minute journey time from Girvan to Ayr and provide a cheaper alternative to the train. A discount weekly ticket, for instance, is only £26, more than £5 cheaper than the train.

“All buses on the routes are comfortable low floor single deck coaches and offer passengers an affordable opportunity to visit Ayr for shopping or connect to Stagecoach’s regular services to Glasgow and further afield.”

New timetables for the 58 and 60 services were dropped through letterboxes in Girvan over the weekend, and the updated timetable can also be downloaded here.
