Boxer hit with payback order

A champion boxer who used his fists to assault his partner and her friend in the toilet of a Stranraer nightclub was given a supervised Community Pay Back Order of two years supervision and 300 hours of unpaid work – and was ordered by Sheriff Kenneth Robb to address his history of domestic violence.

Recognised as one of the top middleweight boxers in Scotland, 23-year-old Paul Allison, of Mount Vernon Road, Stranraer, returned to Stranraer Sheriff Court on Tuesday this week for sentencing.

He had admitted, at an earlier appearance, assaulting Nikki Mae Wilson by forcing open the door of a toilet cubicle in the Bar Pazzerello nightclub in September 1, and repeatedly punching her on the head and body, knocking her to the ground and repeatedly kicking her on the body to her injury.

When Ms Wilson’s friend Olive Couper came to the defence of her friend, Allison vented his anger on her too, punching her on the head and body to her injury.

The court had previously heard that the couple had been out at a hotel in the town attending a wedding and had gone on for a nightcap at the Bar Pazzerello.

After an argument had broken out between the couple Ms Allison had gone to the toilets and hid in a cubicle to get away from Allison but he followed her in and assaulted her.

Sentencing, Sheriff Robb said that it was not unusual for assaults to take place in the Bar Pazzerello but not in the toilets.

He told the accused: “It was not safe for women to go to the loo with the likes of yourself about.”

The sheriff ordered Allison to undergo the Scottish government’s Caledonian System that deals with domestic violence issues.
