Bringing a smile to south Ayrshire

To help celebrate National Smile Month 2012 NHS Ayrshire & Arran’s Oral Health Promotion Team worked with the Community Pharmacy Advisors to organise a competition for the best pharmacy display.

All pharmacies that participate in the ‘Choose a smile for your child’ programme were invited to take part.

Each pharmacy received a National Smile Month campaign pack containing resources to help produce an eye-catching display to promote the three campaign messages.

Hazel Andrew, Senior Oral Health Promoter, commented: “We are absolutely delighted with the quality of the displays and the effort staff have put in to promote National Smile Month. These displays have created a fantastic amount of interest and we’ve seen a significant rise in the number of people taking part in the Choose a smile for your child programme.”

The south Ayrshire winners were Lloyds Pharmacy, Dalmellington Road, Ayr.

The British Dental Health Foundation’s Chief Executive Dr Nigel Carter said: “I’m delighted that NHS Ayrshire & Arran’s Oral Health Promotion Team has joined the many schools, colleges, health professionals and other dental practices in engaging with National Smile Month. It is a great reflection of local community spirit and an excellent way to promote good oral health.

“By making an event as fun and imaginative as possible, we hope it will inspire more people to join in the fun than ever before while delivering the Foundation’s three key messages.”
