A MAN’S a man for a’ that, but Robert Burns’ celebrated life is to become even more tenable with the unveiling of his most accurate model to date.

A life-sized model of the national bard’s head is to be revealed in a primetime STV documentary tomorrow amidst Burns Night preparatory celebrations.

And Carrick country is to feature at the heart of the video exploration of Burns’ life as the model is unveiled in Alloway.

The Robert Burns Birthplace Museum at Murdoch’s Lone, Alloway, was selected as the venue for the inaugural viewing of the reproduction head, which will be shown in In Search of Burns this week.

Using state-of-the-art forensic technology, the head was created by a team from the University of Dundee, who studied skeletal and anatomical structure, facial proportions and texture details in composing their 3D replica.

Caroline Glenn, Property Manager at the Robert Burns Birthplace Museum, said: “It’s fitting that this new model is being unveiled at the museum as we probably have more images of Robert Burns in our care than anywhere else in the world.

“This is going to be a fascinating moment when we find out just how accurate all those artists have been over the years.”

Scots actor David Hayman, who will present In Search of Burns when it airs on STV on Tuesday, said the documentary was “a fascinating and extraordinary journey into the heart of a truly exceptional man.

“I loved every minute of it. I hope our audience will enjoy it as much as I did.”

In Search of Robert Burns will be shown on STV at 8pm on January 22 and repeated on January 25.
