We might only be in the middle of July and hitting a spell of better weather, but the news that the Girvan Christmas street party will go ahead is fantastic news for the town.
There were real concerns that the event wouldn’t go ahead this year due to a lack of committee members.
That would have been another blow on top of last week’s news that the Festival of Light will not be happening this year. The street party is a fixture of the Girvan events calendar and is a night enjoyed by all, particularly the youngsters who love seeing Santa and his sleigh.
The street party committee is still small and they are on the lookout for new members.
There is a slight perception that major events in Girvan simply ‘just happen’ on the night. That is not the case.
Events like the street party, and indeed the Festival of Light, require months of planning to ensure they go ahead to the highest possible standard.
If you can help the street party then head along to Asda on Thursday 7th August at 6.30pm to discuss ideas for this year’s event.
How heartening it was to see a huge turnout for the Girvan Harbour Gala this Sunday from people of all ages.
The RNLI crew and volunteers at the lifeboat station in the town do an absolutely fantastic job and deserve everyone’s backing.
Thankfully the weather was kind on the day and as always there was something for everyone to keep themselves entertained.
As reported on page 16 of this week’s Gazette a fantastic total of over £3000 was made on the day so a big thanks must be made to the locals and others who came to the Gala Day and for supporting the RNLI in such large numbers.
Here’s hoping that future RNLI events in Girvan are just as successful as Sunday.
