With Ballantrae’s RBS set to close in September, the banking group are pressing ahead with plans to expand their mobile banking service.

And staff were paid a visit by Sandra Osborne MP who was there to discuss plans for the mobile banking service which will replace the branch services in local area come 12 September.

The mobile branch is already well established throughout rural Ayrshire and is based at RBS’s branch at the Sandgate in Ayr.

Speaking after her visit, the Ayr, Carrick and Cumnock MP said: “‘I was impressed by the commitment of staff to make this service meet the needs of local people. We discussed proposed routes and timetables which are being finalised at the moment and the level of service which can be provided.

“I will be keeping a close watch on how the expanded service works and would welcome customer feedback once operational.”

RBS announced the closure of the Ballantrae branch in May this year as part of a number of closures.

They are also set to close their branches in New Cumnock, Catrine, Newmilns and Sanqhar in order to bring more mobile services to these communties.

And figures from RBS show that customers using the Ballantrae branch have dropped by a fifth over the last few years.

Only 16 customers use the branch regularly each week during its ten opening hours which are on a Monday from 9.15-12.45, Wednesday 9.45-12.45 and Friday 9.15-12.45.

RBS will be bringing a new mobile branch to the village to continue to provide a service to the community.

Customers will still be able to do all the same transactions they could do in the branch, but the van will also be equipped with satellite technology which will allow staff on board to connect directly to customers accounts. RBS is working with South Ayrshire Council on the route, and will publish the timetable before the branch closes.

The route will cover all the branches that are closing in the area.

It also has an arrangement with the local post office.
