Carrick warned to be on alert for snow

IT'S COLD OUTSIDE: Could Carrick see a return to January's snow cover?

CARRICK is caught up in an amber weather warning for snow – despite as yet having seen little during daylight hours.

While Carrick not yet enjoyed any significant snow fall, the Strathclyde region has been included in the latest weather warning for snow, issued by the Met Office this morning.

Forecasters warn of snowfalls throughout the afternoon, particularly in eastern and some central parts of Scotland, before easing by mid-evening.

Strong to gale force easterly winds are expected to drift falling and lying snow – especially over upland areas above 150 metres, while some transport disruption is expected and possibly to power supplies.

Icy stretches will also develop, especially over upland areas, adding to the hazardous conditions.

Strathclyde is one of four Scottish regions to be included in the amber alert – Orkney and Shetland having escaped altogether and the Highlands and Eilean Siar region being issued only a yellow warning – and is joined by North East England on the list of areas at risk.

While the current amber alert for snow expires at 6pm this evening, the Met Office has issued an early warning for ice tonight and tomorrow morning as the country recovers from its bout of severe weather.

Yellow warnings for snow on Friday and Saturday are also already in place as an area of rain and sleet turns to snow as it moves north.

To stay up to date with expected conditions visit the Met Office website.
