Community sentence for teen who abused police

A TEENAGER from Stranraer who called a police officer a “poof” was ordered to do 100 hours of community service when he appeared at Stranraer Sheriff Court last week to answer for the charge.

Ian Marshall, 19, of 1 Birch Close, admitted behaving in an abusive manner by shouting and swearing and making derogatory sexual remarks in Darnia Avenue and at the charge bar of Stranraer police station on Monday January 7.

Fiscal depute Kay Christie told the court the police, having been called to a disturbance in the town, were met with the accused shouting that he would “take them on”. He then referred to an officer as “a gay boy” before he was arrested and charged.

Sentencing Marshall, Sheriff Kenneth Robb told Marshall he would end up in prison if he continued such behaviour, advising him to “get his head sorted and do something useful”.
