Council chief executive to retire in May
At a meeting on Tuesday, March 5, South Ayrshire Council say it has been agreed that its chief executive, David Anderson, will retire from his post in May this year.
However the SNP group on the council say that Mr Anderson was forced out of his role and that its motion to have an investigation into the move was rejected by councillors.
In a statement David Anderson said this week: “It has been a tremendous privilege to hold the post of chief executive. I greatly appreciate the support that I have had from many colleagues throughout my time in the council.”
In a press release this week the SNP said that in a hastily convened special council meeting the Conservative and Labour administration agreed to a compensation package for David Anderson.
The SNP say that a ‘whispering campaign’ has seen the Mr Anderson ousted from his post without due procedure being followed.
Douglas Campbell said: “This is another worrying local development. I have real sympathy for David Anderson who has more than 40 years of public service and has seen his career ruined by a whispering campaign. We have policies and procedures for a reason. All staff are entitled to be treated in a fair and reasonable manner.
SNP Councillor for Girvan and South Carrick Alec Oattes said: “I cannot understand this decision by the Tory/Labour administration. There does not appear to be any grounds for this action by the ruling coalition.”
