Council expenses are the highest ever

The cost of our councillors in South Ayrshire is officially at its highest level ever.

The 30 members collected £608,551 in wages and expenses in the year to April which was a rise of 2.75% on the previous year.

As for the three councillors in Girvan and South Carrick, Alec Clark collected a salary of £16,400 plus £2,540 in expenses.

Alec Oattes collected the same salary plus £2,987 in expenses whilst Depute Council Leader John McDowall earned £21,715 and £2,884 in expenses.

South Ayrshire Council are obliged to publish councillors payments every year and have done so since 2007.

Since then the cost of South Ayrshire Councillors has risen to over £4m.

Three councillors; Ian Cochrane, Kirsty Darwent and Brian McGinley didn’t claim a penny in expenses.
