Council’s performance management to be perfected

SOUTH Ayrshire Council is taking measures to facilitate public scrutiny of council progress in meeting objectives by streamlining reports into a single document.

Previously, a report detailing progress against the 14 aims in the council’s corporate plan had been presented in June each year, with a second report on progress against 146 performance indicators presented in the autumn.

A new form of reporting has now been approved, combining task and performance information against all the council’s targets and aims into one report.

Robin Reid, the Council’s Portfolio Holder for Resources and Performance, explained: “Over the coming six months we will be developing a new set of planning documents, drawn from the community plan, single outcome agreement and council business plan.

“This new, streamlined approach will also make it easier for us to evaluate how well we are performing against our own self-evaluation model - known as ‘How Good is Our Council?’ - which measures seven critical areas: key performance outcomes, impact on service users, impact on staff, impact on the community, management and support of staff, resources and leadership.”

Councillor Reid said the changes will help South Ayrshire improve on the existing progress made in delivering on its improvement agenda.

“There are still areas for improvement and clearer, more consistent and wider reaching performance management information will allow us to plan the next steps in meeting our goals, offering public services that represent excellent value for money and making sure South Ayrshire Council is enterprising, innovative and equipped to succeed in a changing world,” he said.

The latest South Ayrshire Council reports can be accessed via the committee papers section of the council website.
