Disney experience comes to Carrick

VISITORS to Carrick are to be treated like princesses via a new ‘movie map’ featuring the area’s top historic attractions.

VisitScotland launched the map, which includes Culzean Castle and Country Park and Crossraguel Abbey, both near Maybole, this month as part of their partnership with Disney-Pixar in a promotion around global movie blockbuster Brave.

The Carrick landmarks appear alongside historical sites across Ayrshire and Arran, including the nearby Robert Burns Birthplace Museum in Alloway and the Dark Skies Observatory in Dalmellington.

The Brave movie map, which is now available in VisitScotland Information Centres throughout the country, is divided into regions, allowing visitors to follow similar footsteps to Merida – the main character.

VisitScotland aims to get everyone who went to the cinema to see the film Brave to visit Scotland, and hopes to boost the Scottish economy by £140 million.

Annique Armstrong, Regional Director of VisitScotland, said: “This fantastic Movie Map allows visitors to explore the castles, culture and myths of Ayrshire and Arran – where legends come to life and in the Year of Creative Scotland initiatives like this can help boost the visitor economy.”

Fergus Ewing, Scotland’s Tourism Minister, said: “Brave offers a fantastic opportunity for our tourism industry to build on the wonderful portayal of Scotland that we see in the film and give fans the ultimate visitor experience showcasing our magnificent castles, iconic historic sites and sweeping landscapes.”

The themed itineraries and travel experiences are available at www.visitscotland.com/brave.
