The newly elected Management Committee of The Ayrshire (ECO) Yeomanry Old Comrades Association met recently to discuss the upcoming Freedom Of Ayr Parade on Saturday 3rd May.

The Ayrshire (Earl of Carrick’s Own) Yeomanry is now an armoured Squadron of the Queen’s Own Yeomanry, part of the Territorial Army.

It was originally raised in Ayrshire around 1794 by the Earl of Cassillis and formally adopted into the army in 1798. In 1998, the Scottish Yeomanry paraded in Ayr to celebrate the bicentenary of the Ayrshire Yeomanry.

Ayrshire Yeomanry secretary Stephen Sinclair said “It’s a great privilege for The Ayrshire Yeomanry to have this honour bestowed upon us in our home town of Ayr and we are anticipating a huge turnout from both serving and ex-serving members of the squadron.”
