The Girvan and South Carrick Community Action network has received a welcome boost of £3,000 from South Ayrshire Council.
The council’s General Purposes Panel awarded the grant at a meeting last month.
The money will be used to support CAN’s patient transport initiative which uses volunteer drivers to take patients to appointments such as the Beatson cancer care facility in Glasgow.
The total cost of the project is £31,000 with the remaining £28,000 being met by CAN contributing £8,000 and through other funders such as local trusts, Carrick Futures, Hadyard Hill Wind Farm and the Scottish Community Foundation.
The initiative provides a service to patients when there is no public or NHS transport available with the costs going towards fuel and the running of the shop in Girvan’s Dalrymple Street.
