IT’S TIME for a Girvan musician to take centre stage, as he heads down to London tomorrow with his band to play a once-in-a-lifetime gig.

Harry Sheddon, 24, of 4 North Park Avenue is getting the incredible chance to play at the Olympic Park on Thursday with the Sarah Coloso band, for which he plays bass guitar.

“I’m nervous, but the good kind of nervous,” says Harry on his upcoming performance. “The type that makes you think this is a once in a lifetime opportunity so you better go down there, take a deep breath, and put on a show to remember.”

Harry – who’s grandfather was once the music teacher at Girvan Academy, as well as an admired pianist and organist for the town – and fellow student Sarah Gillespie met whilst studying at Dundee University and formed the band which became the Sarah Coloso band.

With the addition of Andy Gavine, drummer, and Nathan Kenyon, guitarist, they caught the eye of Somewhereto_ who secured them for the 2012 Paralympic Games.

Even with the Olympic legacy company on their side, little did they think that it would land them a spot in the Olympic Park.

“We thought it was a joke to begin with,” confessed Harry. “It’s kind of surreal to be involved with it.”

“A lot of people were quite sceptical about the Olympics being in London, and whether other places could get involved with it, but this is showing the world that this wee band from Dundee can be involved in their own way.”

The group will appear at the Olympic Park at 4pm, September 6, as well as giving out ‘roaming-performances’ throughout the course of the day.

As posted by them on their Facebook page, “We’re all fired up for next Thursday, if a little nervous!”
