While the sun shone in Ayrshire, Girvan Rotary Club was holding a Bar B Q in the garden of local Rotarian, Mr Jim Flowerdew.
His house and his garden in Turnberry were thrown open to hold a huge fundraising event to help put cash in the club’s charity budget. Cecile, Jim’s wife, had prepared the food for the 60 to 70 guests to have a truly marvellous night in wonderful weather .
John Barr, the new President brought his guests, and Jim Flowerdew took the newcomers round his very attractive garden with its fruit trees and vegetable areas .
Tomatoes, broad beans, artichokes lettuce and potatoes were all at their best but there was a surprise find , a mulberry tree fruiting for the first time.
The Bar B Q food was provided from two huge Bar B Q ’s fuelled and fed by Alistair McLelland of Maybole and Ron Gibson of Girvan. Wine was constantly on the go under the leadership of Jim Anderson and all that effort led to a most enjoyable evening. The event raised over £1000, and thanks are due to all the helpers and the guests but especially Mr and Mrs Flowerdew.
