Harbour Gala and race night raise over £5000 for RNLI in Girvan

A weekend of fundraising for the RNLI took place over the weekend with crew and volunteers starting at 10am on the Saturday morning to arrange and organise a race night.

The RNLI said a big thank you this week to everyone who helped organise and run this event and to J McVitte for the after-racing entertainment.

This is the first year the race night had been held and a fantastic sum of £1180 was raised. The popularity of this event may ensure that it could become a regular event on the Girvan RNLI fundraising calendar.

The harbour gala was a fun filled day for all ages. Stalls were manned by willing volunteers and they offered some fine fare and great prizes. The event was opened by the Girvan Civic queen and king. This was followed by music by local band Attic, who willing gave their services for free, with Strathclyde Fire Brigade giving a demonstration on a head on car crash and removing a trapped person.

A well fought raft race was won by the ladies from Troon Ladies football team. The lifeboat then performed a air and sea display with the sea king helicopter from HMS Gannet at Prestwick before completing the afternoon with a display in the harbour basin. Thanks is given to all the local businesses and to everyone that gave time and effort to make the events such a success raising a fantastic sum of £5252 for the RNLI.
