Icy conditions alert for Carrick drivers

ICY conditions threaten to engulf Carrick roads as almost the whole of Scotland is put on yellow alert.

Strathclyde did not escape the Met Office yellow warning for ice issued this morning as five of six Scottish regions were urged to be on the alert.

Orkney and Shetland was the only area to remain clear of ice warnings as forecasters warned that further wintry showers overnight will increase the ice risk by dawn on Wednesday.

And after similar alerts for wind and rain issued last week – plus an amber risk of flooding due to large waves with the potential for spray and wave overtopping – the severe weather looks set to let up slightly as February gets settled.

After gusts of up to 70mph were experienced in some areas well inland last week wind speeds into only the mid-20s are expected for the rest of the week, with Wednesday even seeing sunshine through most of the day.

To stay up to date with expected weather conditions visit the Met Office website. Advice and information on flooding is also available through Floodline on 0845 9881188, or by visiting the Floodline website.
