Local man killed in hit and run

Police are appealing for witnesses after the death of a man in a hit and run in Girvan, Ayrshire, on Saturday 28 July 2012.

The body of 48-year-old Ian Brown was found on the B748 Dailly to Girvan Road at around 03:05 hours on Saturday July 28.

Mr Brown had been a guest at Girvan Bowling Club the previous afternoon with colleagues from Network Rail.

A club spokesman said he had had a couple of drinks at the green before leaving between 6.30 and 7pm with a group headed into the town.

“Everybody is saddened about the news,” a spokesman said. “He was not a member but he is a local lad; everybody knew him. It is terrible”

Mr Brown’s relatives have been told of his death, and a report will be sent to the Procurator Fiscal.

Sergeant Jackie Dunbar, Central Road Policing, Helen St, Govan, said:

“Mr Brown was walking home to Dailly after a night out with friends at Girvan Bowling Club when it appears he was hit by a vehicle.

“He left a local kebab shop at around midnight to begin his walk home. I’m keen to find out exactly what happened over the next three hours.

“I would appeal to anyone who was in the area at the time to contact police.”

Anyone with information is asked to contact Sgt Dunbar or PC Colin Brown on 0141 532 5400.
