Make sure that you can vote

Residents across South Ayrshire are being asked to complete their annual electoral registration forms this month to make sure that no-one, who is eligible, loses their right to vote in future elections.

A ‘Canvass Registration’ form is being posted to every residential property in Ayrshire this week and residents are being encouraged to return the form or confirm the details as soon as possible.

The pre-printed form includes the registration details held by the Electoral Registration Officer (ERO) for the individual address, with householders asked to check and update the details where required.

If there are no changes to the details currently held by the ERO, residents can confirm their details via a freephone number or online – 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

If details have changed, all residents have to do is complete the form with the updated details and return it in the pre-paid envelope provided with the form.

Alastair Kirkwood, Electoral Registration Officer for Ayrshire, said: “It’s really important that you either update or confirm the details held on the electoral register as it could mean the difference between being able to vote or not.

“And we’re making it as easy as possible for you – you can either give us a call or complete the registration online at any time of day if your details are unchanged. If you need to make any amendments, you simply mark them up on the form and send it back to us in the pre-paid envelope.

“Also remember to include details of any 16 or 17 year olds in your household, so they can vote when they reach 18. It’s your vote, so make sure you don’t miss out.”
