Maybole is being given a social housing boost following a £926,000 finance deal between Ayrshire Housing and Bank of Scotland.

The 13 property development at Burns Wynd, which is due for completion in early 2014, is the product of an agreed development programme between Ayrshire Housing, the Scottish Government and South Ayrshire Council.

The new development will include nine two-bedroom and four three-bedroom houses. The new homes will all include a ground floor bedroom and bathroom to allow greater accessibility for a range of resident needs.

Ayrshire Housing is the principle housing association in the South Ayrshire Council area and develops high quality affordable houses with the flexibility to suit different needs. There is a growing demand for social housing within South Ayrshire and there are over 400 people on the waiting list for the Maybole development alone.

Ayrshire Housing and its predecessors have been developing high quality social housing in Ayr, Girvan, Maybole, Prestwick Troon and surrounding villages since 1991. During this time Ayrshire Housing has been a long standing customer of Bank of Scotland.

Working in partnership with public and voluntary agencies, Ayrshire Housing’s portfolio now includes over 1,500 properties and their developments have received a number of industry awards and commendations.

Ayrshire Housing’s Director, Jim Whiston, has extensive social housing experience and has been responsible for delivering the association’s developments over the past decade. Commenting on the Maybole development, Jim said: “The new Maybole development provides a valuable extension to our current portfolio of properties in the town by providing 13 new high quality, affordable homes.

“We’ve had a considerable number of enquiries about the new builds and we are looking forward to welcoming the new residents in early 2014.

“We have further projects on the drawing board in both Ayr and the villages of south Ayrshire.”

Douglas Spowart, Relationship Director from Bank of Scotland added: “Despite a turbulent few years, positive indicators of growth are inspiring development and investment in the housing sector.

“There is no better reflection of renewed confidence than in private and public investment in projects like the Maybole development in Ayrshire. Bank of Scotland is proud to be championing affordable housing and inspiring confidence in local development.”

The development is being built by Ashleigh Scotland Limited, a private building contractor with over 35 years’ experience.
