Maybole weekend drink-drive men appear in court
DRINK-DRIVING on Maybole’s roads landed two men in cuffs before Ayr Sheriff Court on Monday.
Birthday celebrations had turned sour for David Ogg, 36, of Manse Street, Maybole, who pled guilty to driving while more than three times over the limit.
Caught by police driving under the influence at around 4pm on Sunday, Mr Ogg’s solicitor, Hugh Duncan, said he had been out celebrating his 36th birthday on Saturday night and had had “far too much to drink” – returning to a friend’s house to collect his car the following afternoon still intoxicated.
But his lack of previous convictions was not enough to avoid a £200 fine, while Sheriff Alastair Carmichael also handed down an 18-month driving disqualification.
A second man in his 30s almost matched Mr Ogg’s breath test score when he was discovered behind the wheel on a Carrick B-road.
Craig Gibson, 33, of Witchknowe Court, Bellfield, Kilmarnock, pled guilty to driving with 113mg of alcohol in his system – nearly 80mg over the legal limit – on the B7023 Maybole to Crosshill road on Saturday. His case was adjourned, and he will appear again on April 4.
