The popular TV series Great British Railway Journeys is to feature the Ayr to Stranraer line in a forthcoming series.
Two days will be spent filming on the line as part of a week-long feature undertaking a journey from Stranraer to North Berwick via Kilmarnock.
Michael Portillo is likely to visit Stranraer and Girvan and it is hoped areas of interest to be highlighted in the programme will include the Covenanters of Barrhill, Girvan’s fishing and ancestral links to Bruce and Maybole’s boot industry. Filming will take place over the summer.
SAYLSA Chair John McCutcheon said: “This is fantastic news and is vindication of all the efforts put in over the last seven years to put our line on the map.
“There is a lot happening at the moment and the key here is to ensure that the strands all come together to showcase Carrick and Wigtownshire.”
