Musical Society prepares to dazzle
A FOUR-night foray into the world of showbusiness is coming to Carrick as Girvan Musical Society prepare some murder mystery magic.
From the writers of Cabaret and Chicago, Kander and Ebb, this year the cast take on Curtains – a musical whodunnit which follows a company of actors putting on new production Rob Hood. But the show’s star, former movie actress Jessica Cranshaw, is terrible, and the show is getting bad reviews – how will the ambitious cast get their shot at Broadway with the “horrible” Miss Cranshaw in the lead role?
They are not left fretting for long as curtain up sees the substandard starlet fall foul of a murderous plot, beginning a mystery peppered with bright, catchy songs and larger than life characters.
We meet Carmen Bernstein, the show’s formidable producer; writing team and partners in a failed marriage, Georgia and Aaron; Bobby, the show’s leading man; and, of course, Lieutenant Frank Cioffi, the man charged with finding out “who did it”.
What follows is a hilarious show with lots of classic singing, dancing and jokes – all as expected of a Girvan Musical Society performance.
The cast features Musical Society favourites Margaret Nicol, Lorna McColm, Paula Murphy and John Gourlay, while the company is delighted to have James Nicol (as Lieutenant Cioffi) and Olive Lindsay (as Carmen Bernstein) as guest performers this season.
For your place at this year’s musical extravaganza, you can pick up a ticket for any performance (Wednesday March 20 to Saturday March 23) from The Sweetie Shop at 3 Dalrymple Street, or The Paper Shop at 114 Dalrymple Street, Girvan, for £8.
