Off-sales pass the age test

POLICE in Girvan used 16-year-olds to attempt to buy alcohol in off-licences during a test purchasing operation in the town.

Inspector Wullie Ramsay was happy to report that all the off-licence premises visited passed the test.

“We used a 16-year-old authorised by the chief constable to buy alcohol with three to four officers as a back-up team,” said the inspector.

“It’s something we will continue to do but we need information from the public as to where they suspect young people are buying alcohol.”

Police also reported that since early December the force had issued more than 20 anti-social behaviour orders (ASBO) in relation to underage drinking and street drinking in the area.
